Why Your 20s Matter a Lot More than You Think
No, they aren’t just some ‘throwaway’ decade
In a scene from Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw once advised her young assistant to go have fun and enjoy herself, insisting that’s what the 20s are for.
While there are many things to love about that show, I wouldn’t count this advice as one of them. Although to an extent, I agree, I think she missed a critical piece of the pie in that message.
While those things are definitely important, I don’t think that’s all your 20s should be for.
There’s a lot more to this decade than that.
Significant Life Choices Require Time
I come from a line of women who typically went to university, got married later than their peers, and waited a few years before starting families, usually into their 30s. I also come from a family of travelers — starting with my grandmother and trickling down to aunts and uncles and cousins and sisters who all seem to have been bitten by the travel bug, to varying degrees.
As a result, I’ve adopted the worldview that there’s no need to rush into anything — especially significant life choices like marriage or having children. These types of decisions shouldn’t be arrived at lightly, and therefore take…
