We Don’t Really Want “Peace of Mind.” We Just Think We Do.

What we want is to go beyond mind

We often say we want “peace of mind.”

But peace is not found in the mind.

You can’t “think” your way into peace, no matter how hard you try.

You can tell yourself to just be peaceful, and chances are, it won’t work.

The mind never rests. If left to its own devices, the mind runs wild, usually fantasizing about the future, while at the same time, fearing and imagining the worst-case scenario. It scares us half to death on a regular basis.

When it’s not involved in that depressing illusion, it’s caught in the past, ruminating about things that happened long ago and torturing us with all the ways we “could” or “should” have handled whatever it was differently.

It can eat you alive if you let it. It never lets up.

That’s why learning to incorporate a practice like meditation and stillness is, I believe, so crucial in our world today.

And not just for some, but for everyone.
