Travel Is Amazing, but Home Can Be Just As Sweet
Realizations from my recent trip to help you see home with new eyes
Yesterday my partner (now fiancé!) and I got back from a 3-week trip to Portugal and Spain.
We spent two of the three weeks away walking a 280km section of the Camino de Santiago, and the other week exploring different cities along our route. By all accounts, it was an absolutely incredible trip and an experience I’ll never forget.
I’ve felt this way about travel for many years now. I love the challenge of it, the newness it brings, the lessons it teaches you, and the way it completely opens your eyes like nothing else can.
Although it’s often uncomfortable trying to navigate a new culture with different customs, language barriers, a foreign landscape, and everything else traveling entails, I’ve always found it to be worth every potential struggle. My recent backpacking adventure was certainly no different.
But this time, I noticed a few things that hit me differently than they have in the past.
Maybe it’s because of Covid and how long it feels since traveling was the norm. Maybe it’s just because I’m getting older, and traveling in my 30s has a different effect than it did in my 20s. I don’t know the reason behind it, but I am thankful for what it made me realize.
