How a Long Walk in Nature Changed My Perspective on Life And Success
Consistent little steps mean you can travel great distances
I first heard about the Camino de Santiago, a network of pilgrim trails through Europe, from a movie called The Way.
For reasons I’m still not totally clear on, that movie spoke to me.
I soaked up every minute of what appeared to be a very challenging yet fulfilling experience for the characters. I imagined what it would be like to embark on a similar journey. What if walking was my only job and my only purpose for however long I was out there? The idea of it thrilled me.
The more my partner and I talked about it, the more serious we became about actually doing it. The plans started to take shape, and after several delays due to Covid, the day finally came. We were headed towards our first big hiking adventure!
We arrived back home just over a week ago, and I’m still wrapping my head around all the ways that experience changed me.
Walking a total of 285km at an average speed of 4km per hour means you have a lot of time to think (over 70 hours of it!), and some powerful realizations about life also found their way into my head as I walked.
